[And at noon, Lithuania will be ready. His room is as neat as always, but this time he has alcohol! Because this seems like a good time for alcohol, okay?]

( He stops and remains completely still and silent for a moment, )

Prussia said the same thing.

[vytis]

[Lithuania raises an eyebrow.] Did she say anything else?

[pasodoble]

Her name was Maria.

( His tone is uncharacteristically flat and emotionless for a moment. )

"You dont understand. You all made a terrible mistake."

[vytis]

[Lithuania laughs, and there's no humor in it. No emotion, really--or no human emotion.]

That's what the man in the phone call said, you know. "We made a mistake." "We made the wrong choice."

[pasodoble]

But we've made it this far.

[vytis]

On our own, or because Critter manipulated us into it?

[pasodoble]

Why not both?

If we didn't want to play, we could have done nothing and been taken care of by Critter already by now.

[vytis]

But if we win and end up dying anyway it's the same result in the end. [Lithuania leans back in his chair.] I'd really rather not die here. Especially not if I win.

[pasodoble]

Damned if we do and damned if we don't.

... I'm tired of this game, Lithuania.

[vytis]

So we can choose between getting picked off by the hunters or waiting for whatever end Critter has in mind.

We need more time, Spain. And we only have a handful more people to search before the wolves are found and we're out of it.

[pasodoble]

We shouldn't have played at all.

... Are you saying we should stop searching for the wolves?

[vytis]

...I think so. [Lithuania takes another drink.] I don't know if the wolves winning is better, but if Critter wants the rabbits to win that option can't be good.

If there was a third way that would be ideal, but our ghost helpers can only send one clue a day.

[pasodoble]

But we don't know for sure how everything will end.

It can't be that easy-- it's never that easy. It sounds like we're going to die no matter what we choose to do! The only thing that changes is the side we're on and I'm not even sure if that would change.

[vytis]

...If we're going to die no matter what the least we can do is buy time for more things to make sense.

[pasodoble]

We've already killed two hunters and we're supposed to put Holden on trial.

Even if I chose to not watch someone tonight, Hanekoma is watching Sharon tonight.

We really don't have a lot of "time" left.

[vytis]

We'd have to do something ourselves. We need more days, but even with just a bloodhound--

[Lithuania pauses. Blinks, once.]

If there wasn't a bloodhound, though...

[pasodoble]

( ... )

Lituania.

[vytis]

Ispanija.

[pasodoble]

No! You'll die too for helping them!

[vytis]

And maybe buy another day to figure some way out of this that isn't wretched. Do you have a better idea?

[pasodoble]

( Cursing and just

going to finish this bottle oh my god. He drags his fingers down his face and tries to think, )

You're certain something bad will happen if we win?

[vytis]

Right now we're just doing what Critter wants. Given what people have said about the character of some of the hunters and what the hunters themselves have said themselves, could it possibly be good?

[pasodoble]

I'm getting tired of taking these gambles.

If you cheat, you'll die, and you won't be able to find anymore clues. And I've already said I'm not good at these games.

[vytis]

I could give you the gun. [Lithuania suggests it fairly flippantly.]

( And by both he means both observant roles.

He seems to seriously consider it for a moment... )

[pasodoble]

( And he shakes his head no, )

Just as you want more time, I do too.

I need one night.

[vytis]

One night? [Lithuania looks at him curiously, since he was expecting outright refusal and not a specific time frame.]

[pasodoble]

( He'll reach into his coat and hold out a folded note from Ciel. )

Ciel's last request for me. ( A bittersweet smile. Over five hundred years old and these things never get easier. ) I'm not opposed to breaking alliances, my friend, but there are some things I would like to keep.

[vytis]

[Lithuania smiles a little.] Well, he certainly won't be happy with today, will he? You should stick around, then.

I'll take care of it. Just do your best with the clues.

[pasodoble]

( He winces at Lithuania's determination, )

I can't say I am either. ( Holding his face in his hands and moaning some. ) Are you sure?

It wouldn't be the first time we've been on the wrong side before...

[vytis]

I'm sure we need more time. I'm definitely sure we're not going to get it with the current efficiency of our group.

You can keep checking prey. It might be best to drag out the game as long as possible, you know? Don't let the prey win but don't let the wolves take it, either.

[pasodoble]

I know winning is bad but losing doesn't sound so good either.

I can buy us time but I can't postpone a result forever.

[vytis]

[Lithuania is silent while he thinks.] Keep searching for wolves, then. We have an advantage already, right? Maybe that little bit will be all we need.

[pasodoble]

... You better be right about all of this.

( And he's getting up to leave now. )

[vytis]

If you don't think I am, you can keep trying to win. [Lithuania watches Spain leave.] If I slow you down a little, that shouldn't be too much trouble.

[pasodoble]

( Just a cheerful smile back at Lithuania and say again, )

We've been on the wrong side before.

[vytis]

So we'll hedge our bets on opposite sides.
